repairing this quilt was a labor of love - but with thousands of tiny stitches and some hand-dyed, color-matched fabric scraps, I was able to restore it from a tattered mess of fabric to its former beauty.
this was a gift for Barrie and Jerry, who were so kind to host me while I was interning in New York. the quilt had been in their possession for quite some time - and with the help of curators of the costume & textiles department of the RISD Museum, I discovered that it is of thai origin. the silk used shatters over time - but luckily as there was no batting or top stitching it was super easy to open up & reinforce. visible mending is so so beautiful & what made this fix even more special is I knew it would be going back to a home that would truly appreciate all the love and care I put into it :)
