Inspired by the interlocking circles formed by tracing the orbits of planets, I decided that I wanted to make a circular necklace in which the individual parts can spin around themselves on the thread.
My first prototype was a complete mess. I used different layers of acrylic to create an axis upon which it could spin - which made the final product too thick. This made me realise that I would have to drill through individual pieces of acrylic to make my idea work.
I made a final prototype in order to experiment with the production process and realise what could go wrong - for instance, above, you can see that I accidentally scorched the acrylic when laser cutting. This was definitely a lesson learned for making the final piece!
I also made a box to display the finished product in, using MDF and a water marbled overlay consisting of black and the three main colours of my design - blue, red and yellow. This helped to keep it all cohesive and made the finished product more dramatic and grand than just displaying the necklace by itself.
