Made from a cotton-linen blend, the Modern Pirate Tee features hand-drawn artwork across the front depicting a pirate version of me - riding in a ship, parrot poised upon their shoulder. "Are you a modern pirate?" is the question du jour.
Pirates have always been special to me - from The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear, to the 1981 collection by Westwood and McLaren, to the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar. In my research for HIRAETH, I discovered that Bartholomew Roberts (1682-1722), originally from Pembrokeshire, Wales, created one of the earliest pirate codes: an agreement that established a shared set of rules for life aboard his ship, offering an alternative social order beyond the laws of the empire. The modern pirate, then, is not simply an outlaw, but someone who imagines their own rules & creates their own way of moving through the universe. Uncompromising, righteous, delusional: they are the INTERGALACTIC SWASHBUCKLER.
// I wanted my first larger-scale commercial project to be a manifestation of my hopes for the future of my practice. Working from handwritten notes given to me on graduation last year, I came up with three designs, serving as both a wish for the future, and an interpretation of each of the three pillars of Buzzy Martin: the intergalactic swashbuckler, the romantic rebel, and the digital rockstar.

Chest width is measured from armpit to armpit. Length is measured from the highest point of the shoulder to the front hem.
