My first foray into solo event production - converting an underutilized industrial alleyway into a runway. After a grant fell through, I decided to go ahead with the project on my own: to compensate my collaborators across sound, video, photo, set design, makeup and modelling, I sold over $700 worth of tickets, sliding scale pricing $6-15, donating the proceeds ($180) to launch the Community Dinner Pail - a nomadic sculptural object that functions as a source of food & resources for those who need it.
Calling into question our systems of value, I set out to make fashion from the apocalypse, shining a ‘reflecting mirror’ on our relationship to material waste. Working with 100% salvaged materials, I was inspired by Station Eleven, Vivienne Westwood, Junya Watanabe, Julian Roberts’ “Subtraction Cutting”, Mari Bendeliani, the Prodigy & my own Welsh heritage, hoping to call on a kind of dystopian accelerationism: a future reversion to the past with the waste of the present.
